The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type May Address This Issue

Whenever a significant honors show nears, there’s always a demand to include additional classifications to recognize underappreciated efforts and fill the passions of fans with niche passions.

Another commentator made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. The same goes for tabletop games, which is someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, I possess a compelling case supporting my request stands as crucial and important of all. This is the request: There should be an award type for logic-based games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Categorizing art by genre defies precise measurement; opinions vary greatly, and it will always generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why film award organizations steer clear of genre categories. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise within the realm of interactive entertainment, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

For the full spectrum of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Prominent interactive entertainment events presently include award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these classifications effectively encompass a lot of ground, allowing placement for most games within them.

Not so for logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Consider three of this year’s best games, showing diverse approaches: the architectural riddles of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition of another game, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. What category would fit them within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.

Recognition Challenges

Numerous examples exist excellent brain-teasers published annually without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match classification types such as Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging Indie races.

  • One classic puzzle game got overlooked completely that year
  • A different innovative game received no nominations that year
  • Well-received sorting experience received no acknowledgment that year
  • Limited numbers of logic titles scraped into niche award types

Value of Brain-Teasers

Frequently they represent small games, but the art of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Well-known matching games rank among most engaged experiences in the world continuing this trend for an extended period.

The famous puzzle experience competes with popular creative games competing to become most purchased experience; it additionally competes for best game of all time. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks for gaming as medium, and engaging with almost every other genre.

Proposal and Rationale

Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. You could fill multiple candidates interesting, varied, worthy titles every year with ease — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.

And to reiterate, these are games that otherwise have no home at major gaming awards. Logic title developers function at the hard edge game development, producing among essential manifestations of gaming itself. Just like cinema stunt performers, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
